Zypheria’s Call

I’m soooo close. I have just the last four chapters’ worth of copy edits to load and then the format and layout before I can upload to Amazon, etc.

My apologies for this delay. A.C. Crispin’s announcement yesterday pretty much took most of my day as people contacted me to find out what my response was. It was a very distracting day.

My apologies for that and I’m going to be working today to get this loaded *at least* to Kindle. The paperback will be a few days yet – just because of the nature of the product. I’ll roll out Smashwords and PubIt files as well so .. yeah.

It’s close. I can almost smell it.

And how about podiobooks? These paper formats are nice but hard to read while driving πŸ˜€

Podiobook version will be delayed until I can complete audioproduction. It may take as much as a couple of weeks.

Evo only accepts completed books now, so I have to finish it before I can submit it.

This is such wonderful news! I know it’s gotta be tough, but once you get everything finished up, having two completed sets out is going to really help the marketing!

I think I needed this kick in the ass to get things moving.

I think my spouse now understands a little more about what I’m up against and what I’m doing. πŸ™‚

Then again – you’ve had your own issues getting things out, so it is somewhat understandable that Ridan might have similar issues from time to time. But at some point, those issues quit being issues, and become subscriptions. It’s probably completely incalculable how much this mess has delayed your new works – but I think this is going to make things much better. And of course, you’ll be getting sales figures on the Share stories, and such, directly instead of having to wait for Ridan to pass them on. I’m just *REALLY* glad to see South Coast coming on out, and hope Cape Grace catches your attention once more, once you catch up.

This is true, Tara Li, and one of the reasons I’ve been loathe to cast any stones in their direction.

But I can’t work this way any longer and need to get control of the situation. This is the only way I know to do that.

(I’m sending these from my cell phone, so i may have other versions where the focus is better.)

Thanks Steve for the heads up. Downloaded to my iPhone and looking forward to the continuing journey.

There appears to be a glitch in the “top of page” function for kindlefire and the android app.

I’m working on it now.

Kindles processed the file fine. Androids and Kindle Fires choked.

I’ve fixed it but give it a few hours to filter thru.

If you got a bum copy that won’t work on your device, lemme know.

My copy appears to be working fine. The only thing that isn’t enabled is the go to Table of Contents feature within the app. The Table of Contents is there and the links within it are working. But I cannot access it without scrubbing back to it. No big deal. Doesn’t interfere with enjoying the story at all.

W00T! Got it, works fine on my kindle. An unexpected reading gift on a rainy, cold day :). Thanks again, Dr. Lowell.

Yippee! One thing though….it works fine on the Kindle app on my iPad, but something odd is going on with the last line of each chapter when reading on my KK.

I can’t see the words on the very last line of each chapter. The words are there in the file – the visible text changes if I change the text size – but any words that wrap around to that very last line are hidden.

For example, with my settings (2nd smallest font, regular typeface, small line spacing, default words per line) the very last line of visible text I see in Chapter 4 is:

“breastbone. She didn’t mind. At least while he held her,”

If I go to the next larger font, I see:

“against her breastbone. She didn’t mind. At least”

Nevertheless, I plan to read late into the night tonight!

Done! Ready for the sequel. Chop Chop!!! πŸ˜‰
Really enjoyed Zypheria’s Call. Thank you very much.

Good to see its finally out. Any chance of an epub version or do I have to buy the kindle and convert?

I got Zypheria’s Call as soon as I thought it might be on Amazon! That was at 11am my time – that’s 6pm in Colorado (according to World clock site)

I really enjoyed this story. Just like I’ve enjoyed all your other stories.
The only problem is that I finished reading it too quickly πŸ™‚

Thank you yet again!

I think I can go back to do some work now that the distraction of *having* to get hold of a new story is gone…

Cindy, I found the bug…there’s a discrepancy in the way the various devices handle the virtual page break.

It’s fixed as of this morning, but I have no idea how you get a new file from Amazon. I’ll try to find out and leave a note.

Abbott, I dropped the ball on that one. I’ll get a new file up and make sure I fix it in my other stuff.

Thank you so much for troubleshooting this so quickly! I’ll be able to update my copy through my Manage Your Kindle page on Amazon shortly.

I’m enjoying this tremendously, btw! And eagerly anticipating the next installment…. πŸ˜‰

Just got ebook at Amazon – can’t wait to read it! I’m also looking forward to the Podiobook version.

I added the Kindle version at Goodreads.

Hi. I’ve been eagerly awaiting the book for ages, bought it last night and love it so far. However…the very end of many/most of the chapters appears to be missing in my version (downloaded to Kindle from Amazon UK) not sure if this is a problem with my Kindle or the file. Has anyone else had this issue? Help!!

That’s a problem with the file, Tania. Kindle Fire and some apps don’t handle page breaks the way the older Kindles do. I fixed it last night but it may have taken awhile to propagate through the system…because “last night” for you was still “late afternoon” for me.

I think you should be able to grab the latest copy from the “manage my kindle” link on Amazon.co.uk ..

Thank you for amazingly quick response Nathan. It doesn’t look like the update has worked its way over to the UK yet, but I’ll have another go later this evening. I’ve developed a mild addiction to your books (both these and the Solar Clipper series) and so I have to admit that I’ve devoured the book anyway and having an excuse for an immediate re-read isn’t a bad thing.
I just want to say that I loved it and I’m afraid that I am already chomping at the bit for the next installment (no pressure it’s my own fault for being a speed-reader). Thank you very much for creating such fabulous/interesting/enchanting worlds and sharing their stories with us.

If it doesn’t promulgate by tomorrow, I’ll see what I can do about getting a clean copy here.

Very excited about the podiobook? it’s my favorite way this story is presented
through the telling by the author. Nathan is the bomb story weaver!

I couldn’t get the updated version either. It seems that you have to email them and ask for it. They don’t want to automatically give you the update since it might mess up you notes or bookmarks, etc.

I saw also that there is some way an author can indicate to them that an update has been done. Then, supposedly, there will be a new option in your list on Manage My Kindle online where you can select for the Updated Version.

I wrote an email asking for the new version. I sent it an hour or two prior to getting an email from them saying that they sent the new version to my Kindle app. I went to K4PC and there was the new version downloading. That was pretty painless, but a little more complicated than I had expected.

I’ll see if I can figure out how to tell them there’s a new version so this piece will get easier for the 50 people or so who got crappy files.

Thanks, Anita.

Got the Call on Saturday night and finished it on Sunday. I had to sleep for a while as my care giver gave me my pain pills. I am waiting now for the next book. Dr. Nathan you sir can spin a heck of a tail. Last year I had an accident and lost my right leg and damaged my spine. I was once a very active person. I would hike and fish. I was a warrior in the SCA. I ride with the great Dark Hoard. After the accident I am in bed a lot or my wheel chair. But you sir take me on wonderful adventurers. I am able to forget about the pain and limitations for a while. Thank you and please write and take me with you.

As of October 25, Zypheria’s Call is not available at Barnes & Noble or Smashwords. Do you have plans to do so–for those of us with non-Kindle tablets/e-book readers? I have read the nice, long excerpt on the Amazon website (thank you!) and I am eager to finish it on my Nook.

Thanks, Pam

The book will not be available on Smashwords. I’m tired of dealing with the process there.

I will be making it available on my own site…as to whether or not I’ll list on B&N, I don’t know. The uptake on that platform is *so* limited that I’m wondering if it’s really worth it.

my wife just bought Zypheria’s Call and ravenwood for me from amazon as kindle books but i need to have them as epubs. I thought they could be converted to epub but calibre doesn’t recognise the format what are the options here because i’m not buying a kindle

Geoff, you can download the kindle software for the PC for free and read it that way.

I have looked for Zypherias call on podi but can’t find it.
Is it available yet please.

I listen to books whilst driving for work.

I love your books.
I feel like I am waiting to see an old friend again

Thanks Cheryl

I’m *still* tied up on contract work so I haven’t had a chance to record it yet, Cheryl … sorry πŸ™

Hi there.
No worries priorities come to us all.
I will be patient it’s worth waiting for

Thank you.

Hello Nathan,
Just a quick email to ask if zypherias call is on podio books yet

I am going to buy the book for my daughter in law to read as she likes paper but I really love to hear you read it.
It’s like being there.

Thanks
Cheryl

Not yet. I *still* have it on my “to do” list – but there’s just so much noise around here lately. Air conditioner, sump pump, laundry….and the voices in my head keep screaming about paperbacks and new releases …

I’m planning on it “before the end of the year”

I hope.

Hey Nathan! Long time no talk. : ) I finally caved in and put the Kindle app on my IPad, which led me to the opportunity to read Zypheria’s Call. LOOOOVED IT!!! I know you’re crazy busy (and hope y’all are safe and sound from the recent Colorado flooding), but do you have any ambitious date in mind for the availability of “The Hermit of Lammaswood”?

Thanks!
Teri

The hermit of Lammas wood.
What is this.?
I am quite new to the Lammas wood sagas.
My goodness what a great film they would make
There are far too few of these type of stories of this excellent quality.

@Cheryl – The Hermit of Lammas Wood is book three in Tanyth Fairport’s first trilogy.

@Teri – I’m still hoping for “before year end” … operative word there is “hope” I fear.

Just finish this book and I can’t wait for the next. Thank so much for putting a story out that I fallen in love with, I didnt put it down until the end. Cheers!

Hi Nathan
I hope you are well.
I bought zypherias call on kindle and loved it but wondered if it is available yet on audio book anywhere.

Thanks
Cheryl

Sorry. Not yet.

I’m trying to write a new book. It’s taking a long time.
